In Expectation and Hope at the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes
We hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas season. All of the Sisters thank you for your kind gifts to us. You have been most generous and we are most appreciative.
There is a feast day called Our Lady of Expectation that is celebrated in Spain on December 18th. It is a beautiful feast day. Just think about it Mary expected the birth of her Son Jesus. A new life, the Son of God, was to be manifested to the world. Imagine carrying that expectation in your heart. As Mary carried the child Jesus in her heart and body so too was she carrying the joy of this expectation.
Think of all the times that we expect events or news in our lives. The birth of a child, the phone call from a relative or friend, an amazon delivery, the news from a medical test. All of these and more are expectations in our lives. Some are more important than others, and some that seem less important become much more than we anticipated, but God is a God of surprises. He gives us those things which we do not expect. Sometimes we appreciate them the most after they have taken place.
Who would have ever thought that the child born to Mary would become our Savior. Mary knew that her Son would save all of us, but did she expect that her child would have to die? Advent gives us the expectation of the birth bringing us joy. During Lent we are in expectation of the Lord’s death and resurrection. This would seem like a sorrowful expectation, but in reality, it is the expectation of a new birth: a resurrection!
As with any expectation, how do we prepare? The challenge of preparation is made easier for all of us with the coming of the Lourdes novena and Lent practically at the same time. Come and pray with Mary during the novena who is in expectation of the birth of her Son Jesus. I know that if we do this we should expect and look for God’s surprises.
You can come and pray with us at the Lourdes Novena, February 3 thru 11. The rosary will be at 7:00 PM followed by Mass. Bring in your petitions or mail them to us. We will place them at the feet of Our Lady of Lourdes’ statue. Please note that our first Fish Dinner will be Ash Wednesday, Feb. 18, from 4:30 PM to 6:45 PM. On Ash Wednesday we will have a 5:00 PM and 7:AM Mass. Stay tuned for more information. Hope to see you at the novena and the Fish Dinners. God bless all of you! At the Shrine we are in expectation of the 100th Jubilee of the Shrine. Stay tuned for more information to come. We have a few photos of the renovations taking place.

Prayer to Our Lady of Lourdes
O ever Immaculate Virgin, Mother of mercy, health of the sick, refuge of sinners, comfort of the afflicted, you know my wants, my troubles, my sufferings; deign to cast upon me a look of mercy. By appearing in the Grotto of Lourdes, you were pleased to make it a privileged sanctuary, whence you dispense your favors, and already many sufferers have obtained the cure of their infirmities, both spiritual and corporal. I come, therefore, with unbounded confidence to implore your maternal intercession. Obtain, O loving Mother, the grant of my request. I will endeavor to imitate your virtues, that I may one day share your glory, and bless you in eternity. Amen.
